Valerie Loxterkamp

Registered Massage Therapist

I have been an RMT since 2012, working in Ontario. I have recently returned home to BC. A passion for the outdoors and living a healthy, active lifestyle has brought me to the West Kootenays.

I create a warm, relaxing and inclusive space and aim to tailor massage treatments to every patient. I am focused on meeting individual treatment goals and expectations.

A fluid treatment style promotes relaxation, decreases pain and promotes body awareness - helping to create an overall sense of wellness.

What is massage therapy?

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissue in the body to enhance a person's well-being.  It can help relieve pain, rehabilitate injuries, improve circulation, relieve stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of the client. If you are unsure whether massage is right for you, call to discuss your condition.

Here are just some of the treatment possibilities...

Headaches/Migraines - Post-injury rehabilitation - Whiplash - Back, shoulder and neck pain

Muscle spasms/strains/sprains - Stress and tension - Nerve compression syndromes Tendinitis

Pre/post natal care - Poor circulation/ Lymph drainage - Infant massage - Relaxation

...and much more!

New to massage? Here's what to expect...

Always arrive 10-15 minutes early. Upon arrival, you will need to fill out a health history form.  You and your massage therapist will discuss your treatment and any health conditions. We encourage you to voice any concerns you may have. We want to know your goals for the massage and what you hope to get out of the treatment, whether it's to relax or gain range of motion on that stubborn shoulder.

Once a treatment plan is discussed and agreed upon you will be left to get yourself on the massage table under the sheet provided. Throughout the massage you will remain covered except for the area being treated.

During the massage please speak up, ask questions, and voice any concerns.  Good communication will help you get the most out of your experience. If you want more or less pressure, are experiencing discomfort or even enjoying it, we like to know. Your feedback helps the massage therapist customize the massage to you.

Once the massage is complete you will be left to dress. Always take your time getting up off the table, as you may feel light-headed. The treatment will then be discussed; further treatments and remedial exercises may be recommended. It is always a great idea to bring a bottle of water to your massage session as it is common to be thirsty after!!
